After too many suggestions from my wife Vanessa post a daily blog, I'm going to give a serious try. I guess if I make a habit of writing every evening, I will condition myself. I've always been a routine type of guy.
Let's see..... I've had two solid days of practicing my tenor. So my overall spirits are brighter. The holidays alway make it difficult to keep my chops in happy. I worked on my usual scale reps and rememorised some songs that I have'nt played in a while like: Harlem Nocturne, Hello, Dolly, Almost Like being in Love... I try to play the songs on tenor, flute and piano. This helps my remember the melody and chords a bit better. Yeah, I said flute. I have'nt touched it in a week, so we all know how it sounded today. Playing the flute is like play a brass instrument. It can't be missed. I only feel comfortable when I play it daily. I guess this year's resolution is getting my flute chops together. There are many wonderful musicians in Cincinnati that are masterful flutist or is a fluatist, like Steve Hoskins, Rick Van Matre, Hal Melia, and Mike Andres. Everytime I hear them play I'm amazed. Hal Melia a few months ago sounded crazy on flute.
So enough flute talk. I joined Urban Active Gym today. Got a good two mile run indoors today, which gave me the energy to teach today. Slow day of that with cancellations because of the snow. I listened to Cedar Walton's Eastern Rebellion album today
http://www.amazon.com/Eastern-Rebellion-Vol-Cedar-Walton/dp/B000025XEX. My favorite two cuts are Boliva and Bittersweet. George Coleman!!! Billy Higgins is one of my all-time favorites. His cymbals sound is so crisp. After Listening to Mode For Joe, I hade to hear Joe Henderson's version with Woody Shaw. Nothing like being able to find a different version of a song within a few seconds. Thanks iPod.
So there is part of my day now out in cyberspace. Hope I don't sound too boring.
Peace
