Welcome, Brent Gallaher!

I had a couple of nice gigs last week and would like to thanks a couple of people. Last Thursday I played a solo sax gig in Louisville, KY at the downtown Mariott for the United States Equestrian Federation. Thanks Ilse Dehner for the calling me to play. It's always nice to visit one of my favorite cities, if only for a few hours. Secondly, thanks Jim Connerley for the great gig at the Blue Wisp Jazz Club last Friday. It was a slammin' night playing with the Vintage Keys Project.

Today I had a good practice session working on tunes, patterns, etc. My chops felt strong, mostly because I rested them on Sunday. I worked on the flute Sunday. I had two fun gigs at Terry's Turf Club last Friday and Saturday with Eric Campbell, Steve Schmidt, and others. It was intense playing, like a couple of good workouts at a gym. Today was lot of fun because of a nice rehearsal with Jim Connerley's Vintage Keys Ensemble with John Zappa, Bill Jackson and Tony Franklin. We are getting ready for our gig at the Blue Wisp next Friday January 12th. We worked on songs like Joe Henderson's Carribean Fire Dance, Woody Shaw's Katrina Ballerina, Freddie Hubbard's The Intrepid Fox, etc. There's nothing like play great music with people that you enjoy being around. This is wintertime, right? It's supposed to be cold with snow. So this is what is so funny about living in the Midwest. There are too many people freaking out about the upcoming so-called blizzard. It's just snow! Is it human nature to worry about weather? Are we "hard-wired" to help prepare for the worst? I enjoy the wintertime. But not the annual wintertime weather conversation. So if you see me, let's not talk about the "blizzard".

After too many suggestions from my wife Vanessa post a daily blog, I'm going to give a serious try. I guess if I make a habit of writing every evening, I will condition myself. I've always been a routine type of guy.
